Top 10 Things I Collected As A Kid
Beer cans: I lined them up across the steel beams in our basement. Falstaff! Olde Frothingslosh! Schmidt!
RC Cola baseball player cans: I admit to climbing into a dumpster to get Dave Kingman and Rusty Staub cans.
UDF mini MLB team batting helmets: One sundae or slushy at a time one summer. I put the helmets in the cardboard standings board you could buy.
Encyclopedia Brown books: I read the entire series. Loved “Encyclopedia Brown and the Case of the Slippery Salamander”
Hardy Boys books: I still have about a dozen in a bag in the basement. Loved “The Mystery of the Spiral Bridge”
Marbles: Steelies! Cat's eye! I thought we played a game, rolling/shooting them along the street curb. But I don’t remember the rules.
Reds team yearbooks: The ‘76 edition had a cartoon drawing of Rose, Morgan, Bench and Concepcion lifting the world, with Sparky laying on top.
Baseball cards: One pack at a time. Never bought complete sets. Box of doubles.
Truck and Van cards: Seems odd to think they made these. But they did.
MLB team bumper stickers. I wrote letters to every team. I’d put them on the school book covers I made from brown paper grocery store bags.
