So much for that .500 mark and win streak: Reds fall to Royals

Royals 7 Reds 1

Riding a four game winning streak, and cooking on offense, the Reds delivered a dud. Sounds all too familiar. So much for .500 and that win streak.

The Royals led 3-1 in the 9th, before dropping a four spot on Fernando Cruz, including a three run bomb by Vinnie Pasquantino. The blast followed an intentional walk to Bobby Witt Jr., who'd had three hits. Still not sure why Bell sent back out for a 2nd inning, for just second time all season, with the bullpen coming off a day off.

The offense scored fewer than two runs for the 25th time this season, managing four hits and going 0 for 10 w/RISP.

Offense: 4 H, 3 BB, 9 K.
India led off with a single and the next Reds hit didn’t come until a Tyler Stephenson RBI double in the 6th.

The Reds entered with the best record in MLB in the opening game of series (26-13), including wins in 19 of last 25 openers.

India: H, 2 BB, R
Stephenson: 2 H, 2B, RBI

Elly: 0 for 4 and 4 for last 29, 14 K. Heck of a relay throw to cut down runner at 3rd.

Martinez: 6 IN, 8 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 4 K, 80 pitches
Scoreless streak done at 15 innings on Bobby Witt Jr, 430-foot HR in 4th.
Just 54 pitches into the 5th..but found two run trouble in 26 pitch 5th.

Witt Jr. 1B, 2B, HR, IBB. Went 1st to 3rd on errant pickoff.

Bullpen
Wilson: 1.0
Cruz: 2.0, 4 R.

How they scored
6th Stephenson RBI 2B, 3-1 Royals

They drop to 60-62 on the season.
