Ohtani and Dodgers bounceback to even series vs Reds

Dodgers 7 Reds 3

The Reds answered a 3-0 deficit with single runs in the 4th-5th-6th to tie the game. But a bullpen that allowed just two runs over nine innings the previous night, unraveled late. Fernando Cruz and Alexis Diaz, the only two relievers not to pitch Thursday, each surrendered two runs on Friday.

After Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani went hitless Thursday, each homered on Friday.

The Reds are 19-26, alone in last place in the Central, 7.5 games back of the Brewers. The last time they won back-to-back games was April 23-24.

7th: Cruz: 1 IN, 2 R.....he's allowed runs in three consecutive appearances and 5 of last 8 appearances (10.57), after eight consecutive scoreless appearances

8th: Diaz:1 IN, 2 R....2-R HR Jason Heyward, ERA 7.47

Frankie Montas: 5 IN, 3 R, 3 BB, 2 HR, 98 pitches.
Mookie Betts leadoff HR. Shohei Ohtani 2-R HR (13) in 3rd.

Jacob Hurtubise was picked off as a pinch-runner at 3-3 in 7th. Elly's throwing error (10) hurt in LA's go-ahead 7th. Cruz wild pitched in a run in the 7th.

HR: Stuart Fairchild, Tyler Stephenson

Stephenson has three two-out run producing hits in the series.

Offense: 7 H, 0 BB, 4 K

Earlier in the day, it had been declared Shohei Ohtani Day on May 17 for as long as he's with the Dodgers. A ceremony at City Hall was attended by top Dodgers executives and manager Dave Roberts.
