Things that popped into my head this week.....

I was digging through boxes in the basement and found stats from my 1977 Wick's Good Food & Booze baseball team (11-12 years old) in Anderson Township. We went 9-2. My dad was coach. I hit .450 w/ 14 walks and 34 stolen bases. Our leading hitter was Kurt Kiessling (.560). Mike Benassi hit .441 with 21 steals.

I don't think this can be pointed out enough. The Reds have 11 rookies, basically six starting position players, and they are in contention in late August.

When I was first living on my own after graduation I had a period of time where I survived on Totino's Pizza Rolls.

Flipping through the poster rack at Spencers was a must-do when hanging out at the mall as a kid.

Can we just get to Week 1 of NFL? I find absolutely nothing remotely interesting about training camp.

My grass crunches when I walk on it these days. I gave up watering.

I had a blast watching Rocky's son, Beau, in his 4th grade football game last week. Rocky is the coach. His dad is defensive coordinator. Beau is QB and LB. And what a youth football complex in Harrison. Wow. PA announcer, multiple concession stands, grills, cheer squads, etc. It all made me miss playing youth sports and watching Casey and Peyton play. Might have to be a topic next week on Sports Talk.

The beat leading into the vocals of Don Henley's 'Dirty Laundry' is so good.

My go-to pen is the uni ball Vision Elite, black, 0.8. It is elite. It's the only pen I will do my show notes with. I always have one in my hand during the show.

The consistency of Matt McLain is pretty damn impressive from a rookie. His batting average has not been below .291 since May 25.

I don't get the point of having more than one fantasy football team. Same with having more than one March Madness bracket.

I've never seen One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest or Taxi Driver.

I enjoy using facts to breakup narratives.

Just wait til Elly De La Cruz figures it out.

I had my tonsils removed when I was 24. Doc said they were the size of golf balls. I was a wreck, thinking something would go wrong and end my broadcasting career.

Do you remember the mid 70's Van/Truck trading cards that were sold in packs, like baseball cards? I collected those. I have no idea why.

The Reds didn't sign Hunter Greene because he is an ace. They signed him believing he will develop into an ace. He's pitched 202 ML innings.

Sorry, no movie or TV show can be worth reading subtitles.

If the average MLB starting pitcher average less than 5.1 innings per start, and throws an average of 86 pitches, when will salaries of starting pitchers begin to better reflect that?

Bold move by the Reds to increase ticket prices for 2024.

Does anyone really care if Joe Mixon or any athlete talks?

I get an odd sense that some want to see Hunter Greene fail. Is that resentment of the money or wanting to see ownership take the hit?

I found my 1978 Anderson Middle School 6th grade yearbook! My teachers included Mrs. Trowbridge, Mrs. Dennedy and Mrs. Method. My basketball coach/gym teacher was Mr. Pell.

The image of hometown kid Nick Hagglund, with his face in his hands after missing the final FC Cincinnati penalty kick Wednesday night, is one of the most heartbreaking Cincinnati sports photos I've ever seen.

I know I'm a homer, but I believe if Ken Anderson had played for any other team I'd still think he belonged in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Damn shame.

Is there a song that better matches a movie than Eye of the Tiger for Rocky III? The beat even sounds/feels like punches being thrown.

If you've read this far, thank you.

Don't worry about what you don't care about.
