Winner, winner! Reds beat Royals for fourth straight win, take series

The Reds jumped on Royals starter Jordan Lyles for five runs in the 2nd inning and then did not collect a hit the rest of the evening. But Brandon Williamson and four relievers combined to hold off the Royals to win 5-4 Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium. It was the Reds 22nd comeback win of the season.

That's four straight wins, three straight series wins and 5 of the last 6 series captured as the Reds pull to within two games of .500 at 33-35.

In 2022, the did not win their 33rd game until July 12 when they were 33-54.

With the Pirates losing to the Cubs, the Reds are now just 2.5 games back of first place.

Parade of hits: Trailing 1-0 in the 2nd, the Reds pounded out four hits, drew three walks, stole three bases and plated five runs in the 2nd inning to lead 5-1.
But the next 16 Reds were retired immediately following the outburst. They did not record a hit over the final seven innings.

Brandon Williamson: 5 IN, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 78 pitches/51 strikes. He was given a 5-1 lead, but gave up a run in the 2nd and two more in 3rd.

Bullpen: 4 IN, 0 R
6th:Daniel Duarte 1.0 IN, 0 R, 7 pitches. Not sure why'd you not send him back out for the 7th.
7th: Ian Gibaut found trouble..he got a line drive out....then with a walk, hit by pitch and a walk to load the bases. He was done.
7th: Lucas Sims inherited loaded bases and got two huge K's, including Salvador Perez on a full count pitch to end the threat.
8th: Sims K-GO-PO
9th: Diaz 1-2-3 Save

Lyles: After allowing five runs in the 2nd inning, Lyles retired the final 14 batters he faced.The Royals are now 0-14 in his starts this season.

Thievery: The Reds stole three more bases, De La Cruz, Fried, Fairchild. De La Cruz is 5 for 5 and is 2nd on the team.

Nice night: TJ Friedl reached three times, two hits and a walk. The Reds managed just five hits on the night.

Elly: 0 for 3.....BB/SB/R.....K looking.....K looking......DP for 2nd straight game.
