Bengals fall to Giants 25-22

Giants 25 Bengals 22

Opening thoughts….while admitting my attention waned after halftime.

-Dax Hill was here, there and everywhere…including an early INT. He showed lateral quickness to track down and make a 3rd down stop, and was blitzing.

-Evan McPherson hit from 50…like it was nothing….missed from 58. That’s 6 for 7 with three of 50 or more in preseason. He attempted a kick return tackle and I think my pacemaker fired.

-D’Anti Smith struggled early and often with 1,2,3 penalties.

-Chris Evans broke off a 73 yard kick return.

-Allen George had a nice pass break up. He kept making me look at my roster when I was at practice last week.

-Michael J. Thomas forced a KR fumble with a big hit.

-I’m excited to see a healthy third year Akeem Davis-Gaither

-Cordell Volson started at LG. Think Bengals want to give him a shot? He played the entire game. Appeared gassed late. Seemed to have more + plays than -…but I’m no OL expert. He did combine w/ Hakeem Adeniji to plow the hole for Jacques Patrick to rush for a late TD that gave the Bengals the lead with 3:05 left.

-Joseph Ossai came up big w/ 4th-and-1 stop on Giants opening drive.

-Cam Sample had a big tackle for loss.

-Trent Taylor 2 catches on 2 1st half targets: 32 yards.

-1st half O: 2 first downs, 0 for 6 on 3rd down….23 plays//66 yards, 1 rush yard.

-Clay Johnston was all over the place with 20 tackles, 10 in each half, with a sack.

-8 penalties/59 yards.

-Kwamie Lassiter keeps catching my eye…3 catches in first half, including one for 16 yards.

He has some electricity in him. He wound up 6-75. He drop an easy 2-point conversion on the final score.

-Nice opening drive of 2nd H: 11 plays, 75 yards….29 yards on ground…25 from Trayveon Williams, including 1-yard TD.

-CB Jalen Davis was busy, repeatedly blitzing.

-Former Bearcat LB Darrian Beavers suffers a knee injury and did not return for Giants.

-3rd string QB Jake Browning left the game after taking a late hit. Drew Plitt entered for a drive before Browning returned during the drive.

-It appeared the Cal Adomitis snap was high on McPherson miss.

-Bodies collide and pile up. Ball carried tackled. Ball tossed in the air to an official. Officials run in to mark the spot. Chains come out. Measurement made. Result determined. Feels like a 1950’s way to do it.

-Kendrick Pryor posted four more catches, including a 17-yarder.

-Patrick had a 3-yard TD run to put the Bengals up 22-18 with 3:05 left….4 carries/28 yards.

-The Giants went 9 plays/75 yards in 2:30 for TD to take lead with :35 left in the game.

-The Bengals passed on a 60-yard game tying McPherson attempt w/ :09 left, instead having Jake Browning throw a pass. But a penalty moved them back to midfield. Trenton Irwin them fumbled after a catch to end it.

-Drue Chrisman did all the punting: 3-48.3, long of 56.
