Man, do I miss Charlie Coles
Former basketball coach Charlie Coles died at his Oxford home on this date (June 7, 2013) at the age of 71. Coles coached the Redhawks for 16 seasons, from 1996-1997 to 2011-2012.
He was Miami's all-time leader in wins with a record of 266-225. He lead Miami to the Sweet 16 in the 1999 season. He was 355-308 overall, including six seasons as head coach at Central Michigan.
Coles was a fantastic coach and teacher, but he was an even better human being. He was kind, gentle, caring and giving. He was one of a kind and one of my all-time favorites. He always had time to come on the show and he always made me laugh. I always said I wanted to someday sit on his porch and talk hoops with him.
Bio
Coles was a 1965 Miami University graduate.
He guided Miami to three MAC regular-season crowns (1997, 1999, 2005), and made appearances in the championship game of the MAC Tournament his first five years.
The RedHawks won the MAC tourney title in 1997 and 2007.
Charlie was inducted into: Miami's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990.Greater Cincinnati Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008.
Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame in May of 2011.The RedHawks made seven postseason appearances:

Coles had two MAC Players of the Year: Michael Bramos in 2009 and a unanimous selection in Wally Szczerbiak in 1999.

The Miami Redhawks led by 18 points at Rupp Arena, closing the first half on a 25-4 run vs the Wildcats. But the Wildcats rallied back and John Wall won hit. But the moment of the game came in the post game.
