Rugby, anyone?

Did you know here are three area clubs competing for significant championships this weekend?

On the Men's side

The Queen City Rugby Football Club will be competing for the Midwest Rugby Union Men’s Division III Championship vs. the Fox Valley Maori Rugby Football Club (Chicago area). The winner advances to the USA Rugby Men’s Division III National Quarterfinals in the Spring of 2020. Queen City Won the Eastern Conference Championship last weekend in Akron by defeating last year’s national runner-up Grand Rapids Gazelles, and the Akron Rugby Club.

Saturday in Lemont, IL, noon CST

On the Women’s side

The Cincinnati Kelts Rugby Football Club will be competing in the Midwest Rugby Union Women’s Division II Championship vs. Palmer College (Iowa) Rugby Club. The winner also advances to the USA Rugby Women’s Division II National Quarterfinals in the Spring of 2020. The Kelts won the Eastern Conference Championship last Saturday by defeating the Buffalo Rugby Club.

Saturday in Lemont, IL, 1:00 PM CST

College Rugby

The Xavier Rugby Club has advanced to the Sweet 16 of the National Small College Rugby Organization’s Championship. Xavier, currently ranked #14 in the NCSRO, is in the Central Region bracket, which will be held this weekend in Columbia, MO. On Saturday Xavier faces Franciscan University of Steubenville, OH. Franciscan is the number 4th ranked team in the country. The winner faces the winner of the match between St. John's University (MInnesota) and John Carroll University from Cleveland on Sunday.
