Angels 5 Reds 1
Locked in a 1-1 game and due to face the heart of the Angels order in the bottom of the 8th inning, Reds manager turned to Raisel Iglesias to hold the fort Wednesday night in Los Angeles.
The fort collapsed as the Angels scored four times in the 8th to beat the Reds 5-1 and sweep their two game series by identical scores.
The Reds have now dropped four consecutive games following a six game win streak. They fall to 35-42 on the season. The Red now fly home to face the first place Cubs in a three game series starting Friday at GABP.
Iglesias walked Mike Trout, the first batter he faced. Then he threw wildly to 1B on a pickoff attempt to send Trout to 2nd. Ohtani lined a single to left field with Trout stopping at 3rd. Iglesias appeared to be on the verge of escaping his trouble, but with two outs David Flechter grounded deep into the hole at shortstop for an infield RBI single to make it 2-1. Justin Bour then clobbered a three-run home run to break the game open at 5-1.
Iglesias drops to 1-7 on the season, 1-6, 6.28 in non-save situations.
The Reds offense has produced two runs in two nights, missing scoring chances in the 3rd, 6th, 7th and 8th: Jose Iglesias and Curt Casali singled to open the 3rd. Winker led off the 6th with a double. Nick Senzel led off the 7th with a single and SB. Votto reached on a two-base error with one out in the 8th.
The Reds managed just five hits and wound up 0 for 11 with runners in scoring position.

The sun/shadows were the story early on thanks to the 5:07pm start time in Los Angeles. Hitters were struggling to pick up the baseball.

3B Fletcher made two of the finest plays you will see to rob Eugenio Suarez both times. He went behind the bag and into foul territory to field hot shots and throw Suarez out.
Roark walked Shohei Ohtani with one out in the 6th inning...his 1st walk since June 8....(6th inning vs Phillies).....a span of 20.1 innings/94 batters. Roark then walked Justin Upton and his night was done with one out in the 6th in a tie game. Amir Garrett came on to strike out LH Tom Goodwin and induce a ground out by Fletcher.
Roark: 5.1 IN, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 6 K. 95 pitches/58 strikes.
After 1.2 hitless innings. Garrett’s ERA is down to 1.80 in 39 appearances.
Per listener Jeff: Reds pitchers have allowed at least 5 runs in 5 straight games....for first time since June of 2018. They had held opponents to less than 5 runs in 14 of previous 15.
