Reds bat silenced, but Mahle speaks out in 7-1 loss.

Rangers 7 Reds 1

The Texas Rangers scored two runs in a shaky first inning for the Reds and that was all they would need in a 7-1 win Friday night at GABP.

The offensive frustration continues for the Reds. They managed one run on just five hits with 12 K's and one walk. The lone run came on a Nick Senzel homer. The Reds have scored one run in a game nine times this season and been shutout seven times.

The Reds have scored a ML low 24 runs in 10 June games, while hitting a ML worst .204 with a ML worst .610 OPS.

The Reds drop to 30-37 on the season, having failed to win back-to-back games since May 27-28. They drop into a last place tie with Pirates.

The Rangers first inning vs Mahle included two hits, two runs, a walk, hit by pitch, passed ball, infield single and a steal of home.

Mahle ran his pitch count up earlier and then complained about being taken out of the game afterwards. Not a good look with Alex Wood getting closer to a return and Lucas Sims pitching well Friday night for Louisville. Mahle needed 96 pitches to record 13 outs. 4.1, 4 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 4 K. His ERA climbs to 4.46.

Wandy Peralta entered for Mahle in the 5th and served up a grand slam to Rougned Odor. Gotta think Peralta is destined for Louisville as soon as Robert Stephenson is ready to return from his IL stint.

The Rangers bullpened it Friday night. They opened the game with reliever Jesse Chavez, who had not pitched more than two innings or thrown 46 pitches this season. He tossed three innings of one-hit, shutout baseball, needing just 47 pitches. The Rangers followed with three relievers that combined for six innings of four hit, one run ball. The three relievers have ERA's of 4.94, 5.19, 8.06.

Derek Dietrich is now 2 for his last 27 (.074). He has not homered since his three home run game vs the Pirates on May 28.

Yasiel Puig was 3 for 4.

Joey Votto was back in the lineup after exiting Wednesday's game with back stiffness. He walked, collected a hit and struck out twice.

Senzel has homered for the second consecutive game.
