Lance and Casey's Burger Tour
After crossing Zip's Cafe off our list several weeks ago, Casey and I checked out Herb and Thelma's Tavern in Covington for lunch on Monday.
That......is a damn fine burger. Wow.
We ordered at the bar. We were handed two chilled plastic cups with a can of Coke and a bottle of root beer and two bags of Husman chips.
The place is small and sits at 718 W Pike St, Covington. It's been around since 1939. That's 80 years of burgers!
No question is has some wear and tear, but I love the decor and the 60's and 70's feel of the place. It just has a friendly neighborhood feel to it.
There is a charm and character to the place. I happened to hear the following conversation between two elderly gentlemen seated next to us:
"Well, I'm going up to Newtown and gonna buy some bullfrogs later today."
Black and white photos of Reds players from the 60's line the wall in the only room off the bar. There is also a cool pinball machine.
The burgers were delivered to the table. They were excellent. Total bill: $19.75.
People ask me to rank Zip's and this place. Easy. Both. Come on, it's like picking between Magic and Bird....or MJ and LeBron.
Why limit your options? Eat both. We will be back.
I guess our next stop should be Quatman Cafe?
