UC Bearcats: Jarron Cumberland will return for senior season

UC junior guard Jarron Cumberland will return to Clifton for his senior season

The 2018-19 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year had until Wednesday of this week to stay in the NBA draft pool or withdraw his name.

Cumberland was a unanimous first-team All-AAC selection this past season. Cumberland helped lead the Bearcats to a 25-6 regular-season mark and a 14-4, second-place finish in The American. He averaged 18.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.2 steals while shooting 40.4 percent (72 of 178) from three-point range.

He compiled 657 points in 2018-19, one of only three Bearcats to score 500 or more points in a season during the Mick Cronin coaching era (since 2006-07) along with Kilpatrick (2012, 2013, 2014) and Deonta Vaughn (2008)

Cumberland has 1,353 career points and could become just the third player in program history to reach 2,000 points.

Let's do that math:

Cumberland averaged 18.8 points point game this season. Let's say he simply matches that average per game as a senior:

Senior season: 31 games + at least 1 AAC conference tournament game x current average of 18.8 points = 602 points.

Projected career total: 1,955

UC current career scoring list:

  1. Oscar Robertson, 2,973
  2. Sean Kilpatrick, 2,145
  3. Steve Logan, 1,985
  4. Jarron Cumberland, (projected: 1,955)
