May 15, 1973: Cincinnati Swords
From Don Helbig:
Today marks the anniversary of the Cincinnati Swords winning the American Hockey League Calder Cup Trophy with a 5-1 victory over the Nova Scotia Voyageurs in Buffalo’s Memorial Auditorium in 1973.
The Swords, who were deprived of playing at Cincinnati Gardens because of another commitment in the arena, won the best-of-seven series, 4-1.
A then American Hockey League record crowd of 15,019 watched the Swords win the championship in only their second year in the league.
