Today's artist on SOTD is Elvis! It was on this date in 1968 that he taped this in a TV studio in LA for a special to air later in the year.....his manager wanted it to be all Christmas music since it was going to air in December, but the producers had other ideas...Elvis hadn't made any meaningful music in a long time and The Beatles had taken over rock...the producers wanted to show that Elvis still had 'it', so they had him do a sit-down with some of his old band members...the show ended up airing on December 3rd of that year and drew an audience of over 40 million people, including very young me! Fun fact: this is sometimes referred to as the 'Singer Special' because Singer Sewing Machines was a main sponsor!
