New 'American Crime Story' Season Will Tackle Clinton-Lewinsky Scandal

2019 Webby Awards

Monica Lewinsky will be revisiting the infamous sex scandal between her and former President Bill Clinton for a new season of American Crime Story.

On Tuesday (August 6), the show's network FX announced the anthology's third installment, Impeachment: American Crime Story, would take on the political scandal just in time for the next U.S. Presidential election. As the story goes, Season 3 will center on the notorious White House controversy of the '90s which involved Clinton having multiple sexual encounters with then-White House intern Lewinsky between 1995 and 1997.

Lady Bird actress Beanie Feldstein is set to portray Lewinsky, who will also serve as a producer for the upcoming season.

Sarah Paulson, who won an Emmy for her performance as Marcia Clark in the series' first season, The People v. O.J. Simpson, will play Lewinsky's confidante, Linda Tripp, whose infamous recordings of Clinton and Lewinsky's conversations about their affair became instrumental evidence to Clinton's impeachment inquiry. Paula Jones, who launched a sexual harassment suit against Clinton in 1994, which finally led to his impeachment, will be played by Kinky Boots star Annaleigh Ashford.

During the network's Television Critics Association session, Fox 21 Television Studios/FX Production chairman John Landgraf said, “Impeachment: American Crime Story will likewise explore the overlooked dimensions of the women who found themselves caught up in the scandal and political war that cast a long shadow over the Clinton presidency."

Impeachment is slated to premiere on FX on September 27, 2020.
