High school football referees have filed charges after they were barricaded into a locker room with a vending machine, reportedly for the calls they made during a game.

The incident happened after a recent game between two Columbus-area teams: Grove City High School and Central Crossing High School. That’s when referee Keith Dalton tells NBC4 that the group of three refs was blocked into the Grove City locker room so heavily that all three of them had to force the door to open.

Barstool Sports, weighing whether to interpret the story as “absolutely hilarious” or whether “this guy shouldn’t be working with kids,” points out that the vending machine tips a scale at about 700 pounds.

It happened allegedly because of contentious calls they during the game. Particularly, calling out the Grove City High School assistant coach for unsportsmanlike conduct, according to NBC4. Although Dalton said he received an apology from the Grove City High School principal and head coach, this matter isn’t over.

The South-Western City School District issued a statement to the station in response to the charges:

“We continue to investigate this incident and have engaged the Grove City Police Department in the investigation to determine who was responsible for this behavior. Conduct of this nature has no place in our school community.”
