Ohioans are experiencing fewer run-ins with violent crime, but safety remains a concern among residents.

That’s according to SafeWise, a hub for crime and safety information, which ranked Ohio’s 20 Safest Cities of 2021 earlier this year. The report shows that experiences with violent crime and property time lowered in the last year while experience with gun violence rose. SafeWise reads:

“Ohio's crime rates are lower than the national average, though the property crime rate is close to the US average. Among all 50 states, Ohio has the eighteenth-lowest violent crime rate and the twenty-fourth-lowest property crime rate.”

Data showed that Ohio’s violent crime rate reached 2.9 per 1,000 people and its property crime rate was 20.6 incidents per 1000 people. So which cities are the safest ones in Ohio? Two of the safest cities are newcomers to the rankings, including the one that snagged the No. 1 spot, SafeWise pointed out. These are the Top 10 Safest Cities in Ohio:

  1. Chester Township
  2. Olmsted Township
  3. Sagamore Hills
  4. Clearcreek Township
  5. Springboro
  6. North Ridgeville
  7. Poland Township
  8. Hamilton Township, Warren County
  9. Bay Village
