The United States Department of Justice announced that more than 750 people have been arrested in connection with a six-month investigation into the violent Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). The investigation, dubbed "Operation Python," is one of the largest efforts aimed at dismantling the cartel, which has become one of the most powerful organizations in Mexico.

Officials performed raids across the country, targeting alleged cartel members in Los Angeles, New York, Houston, Chicago, and Atlanta. Officials seized $20 million in cash and nearly 45 pounds of illegal drugs.

Officials said the cartel has been bringing tons of cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl-laced heroin into the United States while engaging in kidnappings and murders in Mexico.

"CJNG has contributed to a catastrophic trail of human and physical destruction in Mexico," said Assistant Attorney General Brian Benczowski. "It is the most well-armed cartel in Mexico. Its members willingly confront rival cartels and even the security forces of the Mexican government. CJNG is responsible for grisly acts of violence and loss of life."

Authorities said their investigation into the cartel continues and have offered a $10 million reward for any information that leads to the arrest of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, who is the leader of the drug-trafficking organization.
