Body Cam Captures Officers Catching Boy Who Jumped From Burning Apartment

An eight-year-old boy was trapped on the second floor of a burning apartment building in Balch Springs, Texas, and had no choice but to jump from the window. Luckily, there were three police officers waiting to catch the boy as he took a leap of faith to escape the flames.

“He was just scared. I think anybody would be with flames behind them and a jump before them,” Officer Corey Jones told Fox4. “He knew that we were down there, and we’re going to catch him. He didn’t think twice and jumped out the window.”

After they caught Kingston, his mother, Keisha Sowels, got ready to jump out of the window as well. However, just before she lept from the second floor, the fire department arrived. The officers told her to wait while firefighters grabbed a ladder and helped her out of the burning building.

Officers then took the two over to a squad car so they could stay warm while the firefighters worked to put out the fast-moving blaze.

“They made me feel like I was a human,” Keisha said.

Keisha and Kingston got to meet the three officers who saved their lives and she thanked them for getting her and her son to safety.

“I just thank God that they took the time to do what they were called to do as officers and firefighters. I really appreciate it. I am totally grateful,” she said. “I thank you very much! Thank you very much. Y’all are definitely angels in my eyes, and I really appreciate it and I am grateful for the rest of my life.”

Officials are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire, which they said appears to be suspicious.
