(Frankfort, Ky.) - Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis who shot to fame after she spent five days in jail for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples has filed for re-election.
The Kentucky clerk filed for re-election last week, she had announced in November she planned to seek a second 4 year term. She was sworn in to her first term as county clerk of Rowan County on January 5, 2015, with her term set to end on January 7, 2019.
Davis is planning to run as a Republican against at least four Democrats who have filed for the seat. They include David Ermold, a gay man who was initially denied a marriage license in 2015.
Davis receives an annual salary of $80,000.
