Alfredo Simon on the Mound vs Seattle

The Seattle Mariners come to visit Goodyear Ball Park this afternoon to face the Reds.  Alfredo Simon makes his second start of the Cactus League season.  He'll be oppose by RHP Erasmo Ramirez.  The Mariners of course have a new manager in Legendary Lloyd McClendon who in his days as Pirates skipper had a pretty good meltdown..

Seattle also made a big off-season acquisition when they signed Robinson Cano to a 10 year 240 million dollar deal.  The second baseman may have already realized that the M's offense needs some help.

Today's Pitchers

Besides Simon, the Reds will send Aroldis Chapman to the mound for the second time this spring. RHP Chad Rogers, RHP Carlos Contreas and RHP Robert Stephenson will also see action.  If you didn't get to hear Jim Kelch's interview with Reds top prospect Robert Stephenson on yesterday's pregame show, click the link.

BP Flashes Some Leather

Brandon Phillips has looked great in the field so far this spring.  Yesterday he made a fantastic play on a ground ball up the middle that took him to the shortstop side of second base.  He planted and threw a strike to Joey Votto that robbed Chris Denorfia of a base hit.  Then in 4th he bare handed a slow chopper behind the mound to rob Jedd Gyorko.

Brandon Phillips is congratulated by teammates after robbing Chris Denorfia of a base hit Sunday in Peoria.

Runnin' Reds

Manger Bryan Price said this Reds team was going to run more this spring and he wasn't kidding.  The Reds stole 2 bases yesterday to run their total to 7 in 8 tries.
