"What the Reds have done, quite honestly, is played down to their competition."

Final: Padres 8 Reds 2 Boxscore
So, about that momentum. The Padres flipped the script and did what the Reds had been doing lately, on the way to an 8-2 win Tuesday night. The Padres scored first, jumping on Mike Leake from the first batter of the game, and then piled on with a big 7th inning, battering the Reds for 8 runs and 16 hits on the night. The Reds attempt to rally with the bases loaded in the 9th was short circuited by an overturned replay challenge to end the game.
*Back-to-back losses to Padres....1-4 in season series.
*Kind of figures the game ended on a walk off overturned challenge.
*Reds loaded bases with 2-outs 9th...Ludwick grounded into force out that SD challenged after Frazier ruled safe at 2nd. Called out upon review.
*Reds streak of winning 5 consecutive series is over.
*6-3 on road trip, but needing a salvage job today to avoid a sweep and real change in tone.
*Reds 16-18 vs losing teams this year?
*Runs scored 5 games vs Padres: 1, 5, 1, 0, 3.
*Reds go from allowing 1 hit Monday to 16 hits Tuesday.
*3rd time Reds have allowed 16 hits this year.
*Missed chance with Brewers losing...Reds remain 7 back.
*Reds now tied for 3rd with Cards. Nationals won, Reds fall 2 games back for 2nd Wild Card spot, behind Cards/Nationals.
*Reds have still not overcome more than a 2 run deficit to win this season.
*Padres entered having scored 5 runs in previous 5 games.
*16 hits season high for Padres.....after 16 hits in previous four games.
*Seth Smith leadoff HR for SD.
*4th leadoff HR allowed by Reds this season (Smith off Leake, Blackmon off Simon, Rollins off Cingrani, Span off Simon).
*2 hits: Hamilton, Mesoraco, Cozart.
*Billy Hamilton 9th bunt 1B, 35th SB.
*Todd Frazier 13th SB.
*Votto 1 for 3, BB....knee appeared to buckle multiple times.
*Joey Votto 2 errors on one play, allowed run score. 7 errors on year. 14 last year. *From ESPN: Todd Frazier is missing on 21.9 percent of the fastballs he is swinging at this season, 12th highest among 80 qualified NL hitters.
Starting pitching:
*Mike Leake: 5.2 IN, 11 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 4 K, 84 pitches/59 strikes
*Leake had allowed 4 hits in each of his last 2 starts/16 innings.
