It happened again. The Reds got a lead. The Reds bullpen blew a lead.
The Reds lost a 1-run game. This time it was JJ Hoover losing for the 10th time this season, hitting Jon Jay with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th to forced in the winning run in a 5-4 Reds loss.
Sorry about tonight Reds fans. That was a terrible job on my part. I will continue to work hard but I am sorry I let the team and yall down.— JJ Hoover (@JJ_Hoover) August 20, 2014

*Reds bullpen 0-10 since All-Star break. That's not a typo.
*JJ Hoover drops to 1-10.....10 straight losses.
*Reds 61-65....4 straight losses and have dropped 9 of 11.
*Reds must go at least 12-24 in final 36 to avoid 90 losses. Have gone 13-23 in previous 36.

*Frazier's 2nd HR since HR Derby.
*Frazier had just 3 extra-base hits in previous 24 games (3 2B) and .283 SLG.
*Cards SP Lackey got his first hit since 2011, score run....then added 2nd hit.
Lackey had been 4 for 47 (.085) in career.

*Ludwick 2 RBI games in 3 last 5 starts.

*2013 bullpen: 24-24 3.29
*Cardinals won a game in which they committed 3 errors.
*Bryan Price told Jim Day that Chapman was not available and he was saving Broxton for a save situation. OK. So, the closer is "achy" and Price opted to put his set-up man, his 2nd best arm, in his pocket for a save situation...and pitch JJ Hoover?
How did that work out?
Another lost series to Cards
Reds have lost 11 straight 3 games series vs Cards.

Will the Reds have to make a move for bullpen help prior to Wednesday's game?
Parra and Diaz have pitched three straight games, Hoover is Hoover and who knows about Chapman's status. At least Johnny Cueto is starting, and hopefully gives them 7 or 8 innings. Then again, they will likely need bullpen help to cover innings for David Holmberg's start on Thursday.
*Curtis Partch pitched an inning Tuesday night. He can't be recalled within 10 days, unless the Reds place a player on DL.
*Ryan Dennick is on the temporary inactive list at Louisville: 4-0 2.11
*Justin Freeman has pitched well in August: 8.2 IN, 1 ER.
Partch is on 40-man roster.
Tony Cingrani is on the DL.
Daniel Corcino is on the 40-man: 10-11 4.13. He last pitched Sunday.
I can't see them turning to Michael Lorenzen or Robert Stephenson.
