Final: Reds 6 Pirates 5 Boxscore

Somehow, someway, the Reds seem to find a way. Friday they found a way to rally from a 5-1 deficit to beat the Pirates 6-5, on a night the Reds played with 9 relievers, just 3 bench players, and no Joey Votto and no Brandon Phillips. What a confidence builder for a team dealing with one roadblock, detour and obstacle after another.
The Cardinals beat the Brewers, meaning the Reds are now just 1.5 games out of 1st place. The Reds have won 7 of 9, 15 of 21 and move to a season tying seven games over .500 (50-43). The Brewers blew a 6-0 lead and have lost 10 of 11.

*It was the best game I've attended with my entire family, including my mom who was making here first visit to GABP. We saw a rally, a win, 3 HR's, free pizza, fireworks, a ML record, and a little bit of everything:
*It's cliche, but it was yet another "team" win, with contributions from up and down the lineup and roster. 9 different Reds had hits, 5 drove in runs and 5 scored runs.
*The Reds scored two in the 7th and three in the 8th to rally from a big deficit to win for the 2nd time this week.
*Billy Hamilton bunted for a hit, adding a jackknife move to avoid the tag at 1B.
*Hamilton collected 3 hits.....his 10th 3-hit of the year.
*Down 5-3 in 8th, the Reds delivered 5 consecutive 2- outs hits: Mesoraco HR, singles by Ludwick, Heisey, Santiago and Pena to take lead 6-5.
*A HR from Devin Mesoraco, #16.
*3 hits Hamilton and Santiago, 2 hits Ludwick.
*An injured Mat Latos left after 5 innings with back spasms.
*Innings by Reds SP last four games:  2.2, 6.1, 5, 5.
*Zack Cozart doubled. He's hit in 7 of his last 8 games.
*Chris Heisey made a nice catch.
*Ramon Santiago, who clearly has fought off the cardboard cutout and Flathead, recorded his 2nd three hit game of the week. He has RBI in four straight games, and delivered the tying RBI Friday night. He's hitting .429 (9-for-21) over last six games.
*The Reds had just 3 bench players, but Donald Lutz delivered a PH single in the 8th and Brayan Pena delivered the go-ahead RBI hit later in the inning.
*The bullpen, asked to cover 18.1 innings the previous 3 days, covered four more innings Friday night: 4 IN, 2 H, 1 R, 9 K.
*Carlos Contreras struck out the side on 9 pitches in the 7th.
*Curtis Partch pitched a 38 pitch 8th, allowing 3 base runners and 0 runs, to get his 1st ML win. Got to be a record for most pitches in a scoreless inning, right?
*Free pizza!
*Chapman blew away 3 Pirates who could only smell how fast his fastball was.
*Chapman set a ML record by recording a K in his 40th consecutive appearance.
*Reds now 8-3 vs Pirates, 27-16 vs NL Central and 7-2 on this homestand.
