The Reds traded RP Jonathan Broxton to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for two players to be named later. Mark Sheldon has more HERE.
Milwaukee got about as good of a teammate as you'll find out there, and a pretty damn good pitcher too. we'll miss the big guy— Sam LeCure (@mrLeCure) August 31, 2014
What it all means:
*This is a good deal, no matter who the 2 players to be named later turn out to be.
*This is about repositioning the Reds for the future.
*Reds free up $11M for the future.....$1M owed Broxton the remained of this year, $9M due next year and the $1M buyout on the $9M due for 2016.
*Broxton will be eligible for the postseason with Milwaukee.
*Aroldis Chapman won't be moving into the rotation anytime soon.
*The Reds have likely seen enough of Jumbo Diaz to give him a shot at setting up for Chapman next year.
2014: 4-2 1.86 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 7 SV, 6 BS, 21 holds
August 2014: 5.23 in 11 games
2+ years with Reds: 9-7 2.75 in 110 games, 11 saves
Broxton was acquired July 31, 2012 from Kansas City, in exchange for:
J.C. Sulbaran: 8-9 3.16 at Double-A this year.
Donnie Joseph: Released by Royals, currently at Triple-A New Orleans (Marlins) and on the 7-day DL.
Broxton was a pro's pro in his time with the Reds.
