Simon added to NL All-Star team
The magical season of Reds SP Alfredo Simon continues. Simon, who is tied for the ML league in wins (12), has been added to the NL All-Star team by NL manager Mike Matheney. Not bad for a guy that was slated to be in the bullpen up until the final Saturday of spring training this year. Brett Marshall, who was in line to replace Mat Latos in the rotation, was injured in his final start and went on the DL. Simon took Marshall's spot in the rotation.
It's the first time the Reds have sent two starting pitchers to the All-Star game since 1970: Wayne Simpson, Jim Merritt. The Reds will send five players to the All-Star game for the first time since 1991: Tom Browning, Rob Dibble, Barry Larkin, Paul O'Neill, Chris Sabo.
By rule, Johnny Cueto is not allowed to pitch in Tuesday's All-Star game after starting on Sunday.
