Columbus Crew Saturday night
Peyton and I drove up to Columbus for the Crew match vs Toronto FC.
Toronto won 3-2 in a match with a little bit of everything, including a penalty kick goal and corner kick goal. There were 2 goals in the final two minutes of the first half. The Crew tied the match in the 81st minute, but Toronto's Luke Moore scored with a header of a corner kick in the 84th minute to win it. We got to watch Lakota West/Xavier product Nick Hagglund for Toronto, along with U.S. national team midfielder Michael Bradley.
The Crew game experience is fantastic. We arrived 90-minutes prior to the match, and the parking lots were already jammed with tailgaters. There is live music on the concourse, interactive soccer games for kids, and a wide range of food and drinks.
We got tickets at Seat Geek for $23 each, and sat in the lower level about 10 rows up. I love attending a sporting event with non-stop action and no commercial timeouts. The match started at 7:30 and we were headed home at 9:30. The Reds-Marlins, who started 20-minutes earlier, had just finished six innings by the time we got in the car to head home. The Reds game would last 3:27. It was great meeting Tyler Mowbray, Crew Group Sales Account Executive. Big thanks to Tyler for allowing us to watch warmups down on the field. What an atmosphere, what a night.
Hanging out with Crew Cat!
A soccer selfie!
On the scene for warmups.
They serve killer ice cream, with the waffle cones made as you wait.
Crew just missed a goal here.
Hey, that is Nick Hagglund, former Lakota West and Xavier standout!
