Alleged killer of Madeira Beverage owner under indictment

(Cincinnati, OH) - Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters announced the indictment of 35-year-old Lamond Johnson for the February murder of Roop Gupta, the owner of Madeira Beverage.

Johnson is charged with participating in two robberies in Hamilton County on February 9. The first robbery occurred at Madeira Beverage, where Gupta was shot and killed. Later that same evening Johnson was allegedly involved in another robbery at a Sunoco gas station in Blue Ash.

Deters says on March 7 the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and the Cincinnati Police Department attempted to stop Johnson’s vehicle. During the pursuit Deters says Johnson intentionally struck an ATF vehicle with an agent inside. Neither the victim of the second robbery nor the ATF agent were injured.
