Man Accused in Fairfield Standoff Arrested Days Later

( Fairfield, Ohio ) - A man who allegedly assaulted his girlfriend over the weekend, leading to a SWAT standoff, is now in custody.

A statement from Fairfield Police says 51-year-old Matthew Hamilton was arrested Thursday along Parkamo Avenue on a felony warrant of domestic violence. That charge was filed against him on Wednesday, after police say they were able to determine that Hamilton assaulted his girlfriend on Sunday, January 21.

Police were initially called to Hamilton's home on Pater Avenue on Sunday after multiple witnesses called police to report that assault. Those witnesses told police they were in the house at the time, and ran when a situation escalated. Police were told Hamilton has a violent past and that he may have been holding the woman hostage. Officers and the Butler County SWAT team responded to the scene. After several hours, they determined that no one was home, and concluded that Hamilton and the woman must have fled the area before police arrived.
