No Charges After Mom Forgets Toddler in Car

( LEBANON, OH ) -- On August 23, Karen Osorio put her daughter, 14-month-old Sofia Aveiro, in the backseat of her car and says she forgot to drop Sofia off at daycare. Instead, Osorio drove to work at Proctor & Gamble and left Sofia in the backseat of her hot car for 8 hours.

Sofia's father and Osorio's husband, Henrique Aveiro, went to pick up Sofia from her daycare, Creme de la Creme in Mason, only to discover that Sofia was not dropped off. Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell says Henrique then called his wife at work and P&G security footage shows Osario run for her car to discover that she had forgotten Sofia in the backseat. She then called 9-1-1 for assistance, but Sofia was already dead.

Prosecutor Fornshell says that upon reviewing the evidence and going through Ohio laws, the only possible crimes would have been Involuntary Manslaughter and Endangering Children. However, Fornshell says that the evidence does not support either of those charges, so he will not be suggesting charges for Karen Osorio to the grand jury.
