Cincinnati Reds President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Walt Jocketty today announced the signing of free agent IF/OF Skip Schumaker to a two-year contract through the 2015 season.


            Schumaker, 33, last season for the LA Dodgers hit .263 in 125 games. He played four different positions 2B (44g, 34gs), LF (35g, 14gs), CF (29g, 17gs) and RF (18g, 8gs). Beginning 5/4, in his last 102 apps of the season he hit .285.


            He is one of baseball’s most versatile players, has made appearances at 2B (456g), LF (191g), CF (159g) and RF (157g). The Postseason veteran has appeared in 30 playoff games. In his career vs righthanded pitchers has a .300 career batting average in 2,302 at bats. Also in his career has hit .291 with runners in scoring position.


            The Reds designated for assignment OF Derrick Robinson in the corresponding 40-man roster move. Last season Robinson split time between Cincinnati and Triple-A Louisville, he hit .255 in 102 games for the Reds and hit .220 in 15 games for Louisville.
