Gio Gonzalez was nearly unhittable Thursday night and got plenty of run support as the Washington Nationals rolled to an 8-1 victory over the Reds in the opener of their four game series.

Gonzalez, now 1-1, spun eight brillian innings and only allowed one hit, a hom erun off the bat of Joey Votto in the fourth inning.

Danny Espinosa celebrated his 26th birthday with a home run and three RBI's. Denard Span went 3 for 5 and knocked in three runs and Bryce Harper added two hits and a solo homer in the victory.
