The Bengals today terminated the contract of HB BenJarvus Green-Ellis, releasing him to free agency. Green-Ellis joined the Bengals from New England as a free agent in 2012, and he led Cincinnati playoff teams in rushing yards each of the last two seasons. He is a seventh-year NFL player in 2014.
“It’s very difficult to release such a fine player and person as BenJarvus,” said head coach Marvin Lewis. “He has been an exceptional player and teammate, as well as mentor to our younger players. He has also been a standout person in the community. We thank Bennie for all he has done and wish him the best of luck in the future.”
Also today, the Bengals waived three players -- LB Brandon Joiner, QB Tyler Wilson and DT LaKendrick Ross. Joiner is a second-year player from Arkansas State, Wilson a first-year player from Arkansas and Ross a rookie from Virginia of Lynchburg.
