( Washington DC ) - In his continued effort to get the Delta Queen back on the Ohio River, US Senator Robb Portman and his Democratic counterpart, Senator Sherrod Brown, announced on Monday that the Senate passed legislation to clear the way for the historic riverboat to once again carry passengers on overnight trips. Exemptions to a transportation safety law passed in the 1960's ran out in 2008. The exemption legislation is now in committee in the House.

Portman praised the vote, and delivered remarks on the Senate floor to discuss the importance of the Delta Queen. Watch the video of his speech below.

The pin and the historical painting say it all: "Save the Delta Queen." We're one step closer to bringing back a part of the Queen City's rich heritage. On the Senate floor tonight I was able to talk about our big win for the Delta Queen and preserving a part of our Ohio history.
