(Corryville) -- Car thefts are on the way up in Cincinnati, and Police say most of the thefts can be easily prevented.  More than half of the stolen cars had the keys in the ignition.

Lt. Colonel James Whalen says no neighborhood is immune from the problem.  And he says it reaches beyond just a stolen car.  Many of the vehicles are used in other crimes.

Cincinnati Police are starting a campaign to try to curb the problem.  They're handing out flyers in some neighborhoods, and at convenience stores and coffee shops to try to reach people who go into stores for "just a minute".

"This is a very solvable problem," Whalen says, "if we're all just a little bit more careful, and show a little bit better judgment."
